DO collaborate. Our stance on competition has always been
“collaboration over competition.” While a healthy dose of competition can help
keep us on our toes, at The Power MOB, we are stronger when we work together.
DO share what you learn. Use The Power MOB forums to post
great books, new business services, and vendors you’ve discovered.
DO ask for help. Knowing what you do not know and seeking expert assistance in
those areas can save you time, money and energy, thus allowing you to focus on
what you do best.
DO participate. The Power MOB is a professional organization
here to help you learn how to grow your business, but it is up to you how
beneficial your membership is to your business. The most successful member
businesses are the ones who tend to attend workshops, meetings, participate on
our forums, interact with us on our blog, Facebook & Twitter pages, and
keep us informed with their news for our newsletters.
DO remain professional. This in no way means you should wear
a business suit or address people as Mr. or Mrs. Smith if that’s not your
brand. This is merely a reminder to take your position as a business owner
seriously and conduct all communications and business practices at the highest
level of professionalism.
DO uphold the greatest respect your fellow MOBs. Your
business is no more or less important than theirs. Respect their services,
their business practices, their prices, their products.
DO invest in your business. While new
mom entrepreneurs may barter services in some instances at the very beginning,
know that you cannot realistically build a viable business built on trade or
constantly seeking the cheapest vendor. You get out of your business what you
put into it.
DO support and work with non-mom-owned businesses. Yes, we
want to support each other as much as possible, but remember that we are part
of the overall business community and it is important to reach out and build
strong ties with non-member businesses.
DON’T sabatoge your competition or partake in questionable
business practices. The world is small, and the MOB is even smaller. Word
travels fast and it is difficult to support a MOB member who does not support
or play well with others.
DO understand that you may not get along with or agree with
every MOB member. The organization is large and diverse enough for two sparring
businesses to be involved, and in fact, we applaud members who put aside their
differences to support the community as a whole. Remember to stay focused and
remain professional; the MOB is a drama-free zone, and whatever transpires
between you and other members is your business, not the professional
organization’s.
